Mumbai, Jun 24: A 22-year-old passenger was seriously injured after being allegedly stabbed during an argument inside a Western Railway suburban train travelling between Andheri and Borivali late on Monday night.

The victim, identified as Mayank Lohar, was travelling in the first-class compartment of the Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train when the incident occurred.

According to preliminary information, an argument broke out between Lohar and another passenger over whether the coach door should remain open or closed amid heavy rainfall. The verbal altercation reportedly escalated, following which the accused allegedly attacked Lohar with a sharp weapon and stabbed him in the abdomen.

The incident took place while the train was moving between Andheri and Borivali stations.

The train reached Platform No. 6 at Borivali station at around 11.04 pm. Officials said the accused managed to flee before the train came to a complete halt.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel rushed to the coach within minutes of receiving information about the attack. Medical assistance was immediately arranged, and the injured passenger was evacuated from the compartment and shifted to the Emergency Medical Room at Borivali station.

After initial examination, doctors advised that Lohar be moved to a hospital for further treatment. He was subsequently taken by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, accompanied by RPF and GRP personnel.

Western Railway officials said emergency response procedures were activated promptly following the incident. Senior railway officials, including the Additional Divisional Railway Manager and the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, later visited Borivali station to review the situation.

Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said CCTV footage and other relevant evidence have been secured and handed over to investigators.

The Government Railway Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused, who remains absconding. Further investigation is underway.
