Washim, Jun 14: Four members of a family, including a woman and two young children, were found dead in Tivli village in Malegaon taluka of Maharashtra's Washim district, police said on Saturday.

According to preliminary information, the husband was found hanging, while the bodies of his wife, son and daughter were recovered from a nearby well. Police suspect that the three may have died by suicide, though the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths are yet to be established.

Sub-Inspector Imran Pathan of Shirpur Police Station said officers received information about the incident at around 4.30 pm and immediately rushed to the village along with police personnel.

“Information was received regarding an incident in Tivli village in which a man had allegedly hanged himself, while his wife, son and daughter had reportedly jumped into a well. Our officer PSI Tade and staff visited the spot and conducted a preliminary assessment,” Pathan told reporters.

Police recovered all four bodies and shifted them to a mortuary for further examination.

Pathan said a detailed inquiry has been initiated and the exact sequence of events would become clearer after post-mortem examinations are conducted.

“For now, all four bodies have been brought to the mortuary. We will carry out a thorough investigation. The post-mortem is yet to be performed and will take place tomorrow. Only after that will we be able to ascertain exactly what happened,” he said.

The motive behind the deaths remains unknown, and police are examining all possible angles as part of the investigation.

Further details are awaited pending the post-mortem reports and statements from family members and local residents.
