Mumbai, Jun 12: The 80th birth anniversary of legendary singer, the late S P Balasubrahmanyam, fondly known as Ganagandharva, was celebrated in a unique manner at Gokul Hall, Sion, on June 4. The event was jointly organised by Sonata Symphonies and NKES.
Several dignitaries attended the free musical evening, which was organised under the stewardship of Vishwanath Shetty Kapu and led by NKES alumni. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the singers and guests, followed by the cutting of a special cake prepared in honour of SPB's birthday.




The musical programme commenced with a prayer by Swara Soori Marnad. A selection of immortal songs rendered by S P Balasubrahmanyam was presented, offering the audience a rich musical experience.
Singers Vishwanath Shetty Kapu, Suresh Shetty, Jayesh Poojary, Keshav Shetty Kalladka, Sandhya Singh, Prathima Acharya, Baby Swara Marnad, Meenakshi Choubey and Namrata Kadam captivated the audience with their melodious performances and received widespread appreciation from music lovers.
Individuals who had extended direct and indirect support to the programme were invited to the stage and felicitated. The organisers' effort to introduce a new dimension to musical events through this innovative format—claimed to be the first of its kind in Mumbai—was widely appreciated by music enthusiasts and created a distinct impact.
