Pune, Jun 6: A woman in Pune has triggered a police investigation after claiming that a bedsheet she purchased at a religious fair carried a "Made in Pakistan" label that became visible only after the fabric was washed.

The incident surfaced in the Chinchwad area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, where the woman had bought the bedsheet from a vendor during the Sankashti Chaturthi fair held near the Morya Gosavi Temple complex.

According to the woman, there was nothing unusual about the product at the time of purchase. However, after washing the bedsheet at home, she allegedly discovered a tag attached to the fabric bearing the words "Made in Pakistan".

Concerned by the finding, she posted a video on social media questioning how a product allegedly manufactured in Pakistan had reached a local market in Maharashtra. The video quickly went viral, attracting widespread attention.

Following the circulation of the video, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police launched an inquiry into the matter. A special team has been constituted to investigate the origin of the product and determine how it was supplied and sold at the fair.

Police have also written to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation seeking appropriate action against vendors if any violations are found during the investigation.

The bedsheet was reportedly purchased during the Sankashti Chaturthi celebrations on Wednesday, when large numbers of devotees had gathered at the temple premises.

The development comes days after three persons were arrested in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district for allegedly selling cosmetic products carrying "Made in Pakistan" labels.

Authorities are now attempting to trace the source of the bedsheet, identify those involved in its supply and sale, and ascertain whether a wider distribution network is operating. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
