Navi Mumbai, Jun 2: Two men lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Uran during the early hours of Monday after their motorcycles reportedly collided head-on on the Uran-Mora Road.
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. near Harishchandra Gawand Garden. According to police, one motorcycle was travelling towards Uran town while the other was heading in the direction of Mora village when the collision took place.

The victims have been identified as Mahesh Chandekar (35), a resident of Bori village, and Nikhil Kukade (38), a resident of Nagaon. Chandekar was riding towards Uran, while Kukade was travelling on his Bullet motorcycle towards Mora.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash may have resulted from rash and negligent riding by both motorists. The impact of the collision threw the riders some distance from their vehicles, causing severe head injuries and multiple bodily injuries.
Police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident and transported both victims to the government rural hospital in Uran. However, doctors declared them dead on arrival, with officials indicating that the two men had likely succumbed to their injuries at the accident site itself.
In the absence of eyewitnesses, the Uran police are also examining whether any other vehicle may have been involved in the incident. A complaint regarding the accident was lodged by Vaibhav Kadu.
The tragedy has reignited concerns among local residents about road safety on the Uran-Mora stretch, which they say witnesses frequent speeding and reckless driving. Residents have renewed their demand for the installation of speed breakers to reduce accidents in the area.
Local resident Santosh Pawar alleged that previous proposals to construct a speed breaker at the location faced opposition and political pressure. He also pointed out that the accident spot falls outside the coverage area of nearby CCTV cameras, making investigations more challenging.
Police have registered a case of fatal motor accident and are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
