Jerusalem, May 31: The Israeli military has said its ground forces are expanding operations in southern Lebanon as tensions along the border continue to escalate.
In a statement, the Israeli military said additional troops had been deployed and ground activities widened in areas near the Lebanon-Israel border. The operations are aimed at targeting infrastructure and armed groups that Israel claims pose a threat to its security.
The announcement comes amid continued exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah, which have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict.

Israeli officials said the expanded ground operations are intended to prevent cross-border attacks and neutralise militant positions. The military added that it would continue operations based on security assessments and developments on the ground.
Lebanese authorities have expressed concern over the escalation, while international leaders have repeatedly called for restraint to avoid a wider conflict in the region.
The border area has witnessed frequent clashes in recent months, resulting in casualties and displacement on both sides. Humanitarian agencies have also warned about the impact of the fighting on civilians living in affected areas.
The latest development marks a further intensification of military activity along Israel's northern frontier, with the situation continuing to be closely monitored by regional and international observers.
