Lucknow, May 29: At least three people, including passengers and a travelling ticket examiner (TTE), were injured after a portion of a tin shed collapsed at Platform No. 5 of Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. while redevelopment and modernisation work was underway at the busy railway station under the supervision of the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA).
According to railway officials, a section of the tin roofing covering Platforms 4 and 5 suddenly gave way and crashed onto the platform area, triggering panic among passengers waiting for trains.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and railway staff immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the injured individuals, and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Train movement and passenger access on the affected platform were temporarily halted following the accident.
Officials confirmed that three people suffered injuries in the collapse. Cleanup operations and debris removal work began shortly after the incident.
One of the injured passengers, Abhishek Balmiki, recalled the frightening experience. He said he was travelling to Haridwar with five friends and had been waiting on Platform 5 for the delayed Howrah-Doon Express.
“We were standing on the platform waiting for our train when the tin shed suddenly collapsed on us,” he said.
Railway authorities stated that the damaged shed had already been identified for dismantling as part of the station’s ongoing redevelopment project. While Platform 4 had been closed for construction-related activities, Platform 5 continued to remain operational for passengers.
Officials added that several passengers, including those waiting for the Howrah-Doon Express (13037), were present on the platform at the time of the collapse.
The incident comes a day after another tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh, where at least six workers lost their lives after an under-construction bridge collapsed during a storm in Hamirpur district. Authorities fear the death toll in that incident could rise further.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the Hamirpur bridge collapse and instructed officials to speed up rescue and relief operations.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister described the loss of lives as deeply heartbreaking and extended condolences to the affected families. He directed the district administration and SDRF teams to carry out rescue efforts on a war footing and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, senior officials were instructed to immediately visit the accident site and monitor the rescue operation closely. The government has also assured compensation and support for the families of those who died in the bridge collapse.
