Mumbai, May 24: The Maharashtra Government has announced a major Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy aimed at attracting investments worth over Rs 10,000 crore and generating around 1.5 lakh jobs by 2031, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday.
Speaking at the ImagiNxt 2026 technology and innovation festival in Mumbai, Fadnavis said Maharashtra aims to lead India’s AI-driven transformation through infrastructure development, startup support and research initiatives.
Under the proposed roadmap, the state plans to establish six AI Centres of Excellence, five AI Innovation Cities and 12 incubators to strengthen the DeepTech ecosystem. The policy also proposes a Rs 500-crore startup fund and shared computing infrastructure with 2,000 GPUs.
Fadnavis said Maharashtra currently contributes more than 31 per cent of India’s foreign direct investment inflows and is targeting a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who attended the event, said India is entering a transformative decade driven by artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology and space technology.
He noted that India’s space economy is projected to grow from $9 billion to nearly $45 billion in the coming years, while the number of space startups has risen from single digits to over 400 in the last five years.
The ImagiNxt 2026 event witnessed participation from more than 10,000 delegates, including investors, startups, policymakers and technology experts.
