Mormugao, May 20: A state-of-the-art cardiac ambulance was launched at Chicalim Hospital, significantly strengthening emergency healthcare services in Mormugao taluka and nearby regions.

The specialised ambulance has been equipped with advanced cardiac care facilities and life-saving medical equipment aimed at providing immediate treatment and stabilisation support to heart patients during emergencies and while being transported to higher medical centres.

According to sources, the ambulance will mainly serve patients from Mormugao taluka and surrounding areas, while remaining available for emergency medical situations requiring specialised cardiac transport assistance.

The vehicle includes essential emergency response systems designed to improve pre-hospital care and enhance survival chances for critically ill cardiac patients.

The ambulance, procured under MPLAD funds, was inaugurated by South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes in the presence of hospital staff, healthcare workers, local representatives and residents.

Many people welcomed the addition of the advanced ambulance, describing it as an important boost to the region’s healthcare infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, Capt Viriato Fernandes said the initiative was aimed at ensuring timely medical support for patients, particularly those from Mormugao and nearby localities.

“Golden hour treatment is extremely important in cardiac emergencies. Many lives can be saved if patients receive immediate support while being transported to hospitals. This ambulance has been introduced with that objective,” he said.

The MP further stated that healthcare remained one of the priority sectors under his MPLADS initiatives and assured continued efforts to strengthen medical facilities accessible to the public.

“Our aim is to make quality emergency healthcare services available to every section of society. This ambulance is not merely a vehicle but a life-saving facility that can make a crucial difference during emergencies,” Fernandes added.

Hospital authorities appreciated the initiative and said the new ambulance would greatly improve emergency response capabilities in the region.

Officials pointed out that cardiac patients often require rapid intervention and stabilisation before reaching specialised treatment centres, making advanced ambulances crucial in saving lives.

Residents and healthcare workers present during the programme expressed hope that the service would help reduce delays in emergency transportation and improve outcomes for patients requiring urgent cardiac care.
