Thane, May 19: A major fire broke out at a cardboard storage godown and a nearby garage in Maharashtra’s Thane city on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred around 7.40 am at Taricha Pada in the Kolshet area, according to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC).

Soon after receiving information, teams from the fire brigade and disaster management cell rushed to the spot with two fire engines, a jumbo water tanker and a pickup vehicle to contain the blaze.

Officials said the fire initially erupted at the cardboard storage unit and quickly spread to an adjacent garage.

Thick smoke engulfed the area near a bus stop, causing concern among local residents and commuters.

“Efforts to extinguish the fire are still underway. As of now, no injuries have been reported in the incident,” Tadvi said.

Authorities stated that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation has been launched.
