Air India dismisses rumours of complete July shutdown; flight cuts to continue on select routes

New Delhi, May 13: Air India on Wednesday dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the airline had cancelled all flights till July due to fuel shortages arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis and rising air turbine fuel (ATF) prices.

Calling the reports “malicious and fabricated”, the airline clarified through a post on X that operations have not been suspended and urged passengers to rely only on official communication channels for accurate updates.

“Malicious and fabricated claims circulating on certain platforms alleging that Air India has cancelled all international flights are completely false and baseless. For accurate information, please rely only on official Air India channels,” the airline stated.

However, sources within Air India confirmed that the airline will continue reducing flight frequencies on select international sectors during June and July. An official announcement regarding the revised schedule is expected shortly.

According to sources, some routes have already witnessed curtailment in services as the airline manages operational costs amid rising ATF prices and uncertainties linked to the West Asia situation.

During April and May, Air India had already scaled down frequencies on several long-haul routes. Flights between Delhi and New York’s JFK Airport were reduced from 10 weekly services to seven, while Mumbai–San Francisco operations were cut from six to four flights a week.

Similarly, services to Toronto were reduced from 10 to seven flights weekly, while certain European destinations, including Zurich, also saw a reduction in operations.

The airline, however, maintained that there is no blanket cancellation of flights and that services continue across domestic and international networks with schedule adjustments on selected routes.
