Lorry driver arrested in fatal hit-and-run case on Loutolim–Verna Highway

Panaji, May 12: Maina Curtorim Police have arrested a lorry driver in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that took place on the Loutolim–Verna Highway.

The accused has been identified as Vijay C.T. Shresth (51), a resident of Maharashtra. The deceased was identified as Pramod Nishad (30), a driver originally from Ramnagar in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, the incident occurred when the victim, who was reportedly walking along the highway, was run over by a vehicle and died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Initially, police registered a hit-and-run case against an unidentified vehicle and launched an investigation. During the probe, officers traced and detained the lorry suspected to be involved in the accident, leading to the arrest of the driver.

Police said further investigation is in progress to establish the exact sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
