New Delhi, May 6: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three individuals, including a doctor, in connection with an alleged ISIS-linked conspiracy to carry out mass poisoning in public places using a biological toxin.

The accused — Dr Syed Ahmed Mohiuddin from Hyderabad, and Azad and Mohammad Suhel from Uttar Pradesh — have been chargesheeted before a special NIA court in Ahmedabad.

According to the NIA, the trio was acting under the direction of foreign-based handlers linked to the Islamic State (ISIS). They had allegedly coordinated efforts to recruit and radicalise vulnerable youth to support extremist activities and promote acts of terror, including the use of prohibited weapons and biotoxins.

Investigations revealed that the accused had planned to use ricin, a highly toxic substance derived from castor seeds and listed under Schedule I of the Chemical Weapons Convention, to execute their plans.

The case was initially registered by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in November 2025, following the arrest of Dr Mohiuddin. He was intercepted at a toll plaza with illegal weapons, a bottle containing four litres of castor oil, and other incriminating materials in his possession.

Further probe by the ATS led to the arrest of co-accused Azad and Mohammad Suhel on the same day.

The NIA, which later took over the investigation, stated that the accused were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at spreading terror through bioterrorism methods. Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
