Navi Mumbai, May 3: Rabale police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 31-year-old woman from Ghansoli after a failed marriage promise and alleged harassment.
The accused, identified as Ajay Teli, a resident of Airoli node, was taken into custody from his residence following an FIR filed by the victim’s father.
The incident dates back to April 7, when the woman was found dead at her Ghansoli residence around 7 p.m. Police initially registered it as an accidental death report. However, during the crime scene inspection, officers recovered a diary containing a suicide note naming Teli and accusing him of sustained mental and physical harassment.

According to police officials, the note alleged that Teli had promised marriage, later withdrew from the commitment, and subjected the woman to continued abuse. It further claimed that he forced her to undergo an abortion and harassed her by questioning her character.
Based on the contents of the note, the victim’s father lodged a complaint on April 9, after which police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including abetment of suicide, causing miscarriage without consent, intentional insult, and voluntarily causing hurt.
Investigators said the relationship between the two began in January. At the time, the woman was already married, and Teli allegedly persuaded her to seek divorce with the promise of marriage. However, after the divorce, he reportedly began avoiding marriage discussions and allegedly subjected her to mental and physical harassment.
Police said further investigation is underway to verify the allegations and gather additional evidence in the case.
