Raigad, May 2: A tragic accident in Bodani Ghat of Raigad district on Saturday morning claimed the life of a labourer and left several others injured after a cement-laden trailer overturned and crashed onto a pickup vehicle.
According to reports, a group of workers was travelling in a pickup through the ghat route for mango harvesting when a heavy trailer coming from the opposite direction lost control at a sharp turn. The trailer skidded and overturned, with its entire load falling onto the pickup, crushing it completely.
The impact was so severe that the pickup was mangled, and the trapped workers had to be rescued with great difficulty. Upon receiving information, local residents and police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Ambulances later shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared one labourer dead on the spot.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of the Bodani Ghat stretch, where sharp bends and unsafe conditions have repeatedly led to accidents. Locals have expressed anger over the poor road condition, lack of safety measures, and unchecked speed of heavy vehicles.
Residents pointed out that several accidents have occurred earlier at the same spot, but no concrete steps have been taken by the authorities so far.
They have demanded installation of speed limit signs, guardrails, and CCTV cameras at dangerous turns, along with stricter regulation of heavy vehicle movement in the ghat area.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation. Action is being taken to book the trailer driver for negligence, while the exact cause of the accident is being probed.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom in the region, with locals expressing grief over the loss of life and urging authorities to take immediate steps to prevent further tragedies.
