Washington school stabbing: Six injured at Foss High; suspect student in custody

Washington, May 1: A stabbing incident at Foss High School in Tacoma left five students and a security guard injured on Thursday afternoon, prompting a lockdown and large-scale emergency response.

According to authorities, the violence stemmed from an altercation involving a student, who has since been taken into custody. Emergency services reached the campus around 1:38 pm following reports of an “active assault.”

Officials said four students sustained stab injuries and were initially reported to be in critical condition, while another student and a school security guard suffered minor injuries. The suspect was also hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

By evening, authorities confirmed that all six individuals were in stable condition, providing some relief to concerned families.

Police stated that five of the injured were students, including the suspect, while the sixth victim was a security guard. Investigations are ongoing to determine the sequence of events that led to the incident.

The school was immediately placed under lockdown as law enforcement secured the premises. Tacoma Public Schools later confirmed that students were safely dismissed once the situation was brought under control, and a reunification process was arranged for parents.

In the aftermath, classes and after-school activities for Friday have been cancelled. The school is scheduled to reopen on Monday, with counselling services to be provided for students and staff.

Authorities have assured that the campus is now secure as the probe into the incident continues.
