US Naval blockade on Iran escalates tensions as dozens of ships intercepted

Daijiworld Media Network - Washington

Washington, Apr 30: The United States military has intensified its naval blockade targeting Iranian ports, intercepting dozens of vessels in a move that has further heightened tensions between the two countries.

According to US Central Command, forces have now stopped 42 commercial ships attempting to pass through restricted waters. Commander Brad Cooper described the operation as a major success, noting that it has significantly disrupted maritime trade linked to Iran.

Officials stated that 41 tankers remain stranded due to the blockade, collectively carrying around 69 million barrels of oil. This represents an estimated value exceeding $6 billion, dealing a substantial blow to Iran’s oil export revenues. The US maintains that the blockade is being strictly enforced and remains effective.

Iran has strongly condemned the US action, calling it an act of “piracy.” The country’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said its forces chose not to intervene during one such incident because family members of crew were onboard the targeted vessel.

Iranian officials have warned that continued US actions in the region, particularly in the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, could provoke a serious military response. State media, including Press TV, reported that senior security sources have threatened “unprecedented” retaliation if the blockade persists.

The US blockade was implemented following unsuccessful negotiations between Washington and Tehran held in Islamabad earlier this month. With both sides hardening their positions, the situation in the region remains volatile.
