Check weather alerts before heading out, advises IMD

New Delhi, Apr 29: With the intensity of summer increasing daily, the India Meteorological Department (MD) has advised citizens to check the weather conditions of their destinations before traveling.

The IMD website provides continuous updates and warnings for the next seven days, including details on temperature, rainfall probability, and wind speed.

Significant weather variations have been observed across various parts of the country this year. While some regions experience cool weather and rain, others are grappling with extreme heat. IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra noted that these shifting patterns can directly impact health, making precautionary measures essential.

"While the northeastern states are experiencing cool weather and rain, central and southern India are facing intense heat and dry winds. Meanwhile, northwestern parts have seen a mix of rain and cold. Travelers might experience vastly different climates within a single journey," Mohapatra explained.

Despite rainfall being predicted for some states in the coming days, temperatures remain above normal. This poses risks of heat stroke, dehydration, and severe exhaustion, particularly for the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.
