Mumbai, Apr 27: A couple and their two daughters died due to suspected food poisoning after consuming watermelon following a family get-together at their residence in South Mumbai, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Abdullah (40), his wife Nasrin (35), and their daughters Zainab (13) and Ayesha (16). The incident occurred at their residence in the JJ Marg area on April 25, an official informed on Monday.

According to police, the family had hosted a gathering at their home where they, along with five other guests, consumed chicken pulav as the main course. After the guests left, the family reportedly ate watermelon.

Shortly thereafter, all four began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and dizziness. They were initially rushed to a private hospital. However, as their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to JJ Hospital for further treatment.

Despite medical efforts, all four succumbed on Sunday.
