Bamako, Apr 26: Sadio Camara was reportedly killed after armed groups attacked his residence in Kati, near the capital Bamako, amid a wave of coordinated assaults across Mali, according to local sources.

The sources, speaking anonymously, said the attack on Camara’s residence also claimed the life of his second wife. The incident was part of a broader series of strikes carried out on Saturday targeting multiple cities, including Kati, Sevare, Gao, Kidal, and Bamako. At least 16 people were reported injured in the attacks.

While the Malian government confirmed the coordinated assaults in an official statement, it has not yet formally confirmed the death of the defence minister.

The General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces said search operations against the attackers are ongoing in affected regions, including Kati and Kidal. Authorities stated that the attacks were aimed at destabilising the country’s defence system and creating fear among the population.

In response, security has been tightened nationwide, with curfews imposed, patrols increased, and checkpoints reinforced to monitor potential threats. The military reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and maintaining security.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of India in Bamako has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals in Mali to remain cautious, stay indoors, and strictly follow local authorities’ instructions as the situation continues to evolve.

Officials said they are closely monitoring developments and will provide further updates as needed.
