Washington, Apr 26: Amid stalled negotiations with Iran, US President Donald Trump has said that Tehran recently sent a new peace proposal, but he rejected it, stating that it “could have been better.”
Speaking to reporters on Saturday before boarding Air Force One to return to Washington from Florida, Trump said a revised proposal was received shortly after he called off the talks.
“They gave us a paper that could have been better, and interestingly, immediately when I cancelled it, within 10 minutes we got a new paper that was much better,” he said.

The President did not disclose specific details of the latest proposal but noted that Iran had made significant offers. However, he reiterated that a key US condition remains unchanged.
“They offered a lot,” Trump said, adding, “Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump said he decided to cancel the latest round of negotiations citing logistical challenges and lack of direct engagement with Iran’s top leadership.
“It was a lot of travelling, and our representatives weren’t meeting with the leader of the country,” he said, referring to US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
He added that further communication with Iran would continue through indirect channels.
“We will deal by telephone and they can call us anytime they want,” Trump said, asserting that the United States holds a strong negotiating position.
“We have all the cards,” he added.
The remarks come at a time when diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran remain uncertain, with both sides yet to reach a breakthrough on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme.
