St Joseph University marks World Creativity Day with ‘LeanSpark’ launch, focus on innovation

Media Release

Bengaluru, Apr 16: St Joseph’s University (SJU) transformed into a hub of visionary thinking on April 11, as the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) hosted a high-profile celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Day at Xavier Hall.

The event, which drew a diverse crowd of students, faculty, and industry experts, centred on the theme of bridging academic theory with real-world application through "frugal and simple thinking."

A global exchange of ideas

The morning reached its pinnacle with the official launch of LeanSpark, a new literary contribution to the startup world co-authored by Prof Jaideep Prabhu of Cambridge Judge Business School and Prof Mukesh Sud, visiting fellow at Cambridge and former IIM Ahmedabad faculty.

The authors were felicitated by university leadership, including Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, pro vice-chancellor Dr Ronald Mascarenhas, and registrar Dr Syed Wajeed. In his welcome address, Fr Denzil Lobo SJ emphasised that creativity, collaboration and innovation are the primary architects of the future.

From frugal innovation to real-world action

Prof Jaideep Prabhu captivated the audience with a keynote on frugal innovation — the art of creating significant value using limited resources. This was followed by a curated dialogue moderated by Daniel Madapur, where students engaged in a spirited Q&A regarding the evolving entrepreneurial landscape.

The programme moved beyond theory with a closing session titled “From Insight to Action,” led by Nisha Ninan and Riya Reshmi. The duo provided participants with a practical roadmap for transforming classroom ideas into scalable, real-world impact.

Strengthening the ecosystem

The celebration was more than just a formal gathering; it catalysed SJU’s growing innovation ecosystem. By fostering direct interaction between students and global thought leaders, the university has reinforced its commitment to nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset.

The afternoon concluded with a networking lunch at the PG Quadrangle, where the energy of the sessions translated into hushed huddles of students discussing potential startups and research ventures.

As the curtains fell on the day’s events, the consensus was clear: at St Joseph’s University, innovation is no longer just a concept—it is a call to action.
