Washington, Apr 10: US President Donald Trump on Friday issued a sharp warning to Iran, stating that Tehran had “no cards” left and was relying on “short-term extortion” of the world through control of key international waterways.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran’s only leverage was its ability to disrupt global shipping routes, adding that negotiations were its only viable option. His remarks came hours after he indicated possible military escalation, saying US warships were being reloaded and ready to resume strikes if talks fail.
The high-stakes negotiations are scheduled in Islamabad, with Vice President JD Vance leading the US delegation. Trump said the outcome of the talks would become clear within 24 hours, underscoring a narrow diplomatic window.

Iran is expected to be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf. Tehran has maintained that it has the right to enrich uranium and has raised concerns over US demands.
Key issues on the agenda include Iran handing over its stockpile of enriched uranium, reopening the Strait of Hormuz for international shipping, curbing support to regional proxy groups, and addressing its ballistic missile programme. Iran, in turn, is pressing for the lifting of US sanctions and access to its blocked assets held abroad.
The White House expressed cautious optimism, with principal deputy press secretary Anna Kelly stating that Trump believes a breakthrough is possible. She said the US team, which includes special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner, has been working in close coordination to secure a deal.
However, Iran has hardened its stance ahead of the talks, insisting that a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of its frozen assets must be implemented before negotiations begin.
With tensions high and both sides holding firm on key demands, the outcome of the Pakistan talks remains uncertain.
