Mumbai, Apr 7: In a major boost to urban connectivity, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority on Tuesday launched sections of Mumbai Metro Line 2B and Mumbai Metro Line 9, bringing relief to lakhs of commuters in the city’s eastern suburbs and Mira-Bhayander region.

The newly opened 4.5-km stretch of Line 9 connects Dahisar to Kashigaon and includes four stations — Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon. The corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity along the western suburbs and ease congestion on arterial roads.

Similarly, a 5.53-km stretch of Line 2B connecting Chembur to Mandale has been made operational, covering five stations — Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd and Mandale.

Officials said the new metro lines will provide faster, smoother and more reliable transport, reducing travel time and enhancing last-mile connectivity for daily commuters who have long grappled with traffic congestion.

A key highlight of Line 9 is its seamless integration with Line 7 at Dahisar, enabling passengers to travel towards Andheri East without changing trains. It also connects with Line 2A, further strengthening the suburban metro network.

Line 2B forms part of a larger 23.6-km corridor from D N Nagar to Mandale, which, once fully operational, will link key areas such as Mankhurd, Chembur and Kurla, significantly transforming commuting patterns in Mumbai.

Authorities said the launch marks a crucial step in expanding the city’s metro network and improving overall urban mobility.
