Guwahati, Apr 4: Nitin Nabin on Saturday said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has significantly transformed Assam over the past decade by focusing on development while preserving the state’s cultural legacy.
Addressing an election rally in Ramkrishna Nagar Assembly constituency in Sribhumi district, the BJP leader alleged that earlier governments, particularly the Indian National Congress, had allowed regions like the Barak Valley to deteriorate into “crime hubs” due to vote-bank politics.
Recalling his visits to the region between 2010 and 2012, Nabin described the situation then as marked by poor infrastructure, weak connectivity, and widespread public hardship.

“People struggled with bad roads and faced immense difficulty travelling from Guwahati to the Barak Valley. Today, that situation has completely changed,” he said.
He credited the NDA government’s infrastructure push for improving connectivity and boosting economic activity across the state, highlighting the expansion of road networks as a key achievement.
Nabin also criticised previous administrations for failing to ensure basic security and livelihoods, alleging that issues related to employment, women’s safety, and protection of local communities were neglected.
Contrasting past governance with the present, he said the current leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritised welfare and inclusive development.
He cited schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, stating that around 22 lakh houses have been constructed for the poor in Assam alone.
Urging voters to continue supporting the BJP, Nabin said sustained public backing would help maintain the pace of development and ensure long-term stability in the state.
