Riyadh, Mar 22: Saudi Arabia on Sunday declared five Iranian diplomats, including the military attaché, as “persona non grata” and ordered them to leave the country within 24 hours, in a sharp response to what it termed “blatant” attacks by Iran.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the alleged Iranian strikes on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations, calling them a “flagrant violation” of international law and principles of good neighbourliness. It also cited violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).

In a strongly worded statement, the Kingdom said the attacks run counter to the values of “Islamic brotherhood” and warned of serious consequences if such actions continue.
Reaffirming its stance, Saudi Arabia said it would take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests, invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter, which permits self-defence.
Hours after the diplomatic move, Saudi authorities reported fresh threats, including drone interceptions in the eastern region and ballistic missiles launched towards the capital Riyadh. One missile was intercepted, while the others landed in uninhabited areas without causing casualties.
The Kingdom stressed that it remains prepared to take further steps to protect its territory, citizens and critical infrastructure as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
