Tehran, Mar 21: Seyed Abbas Araghchi has stated that Iran is not seeking a temporary ceasefire but a “complete, comprehensive and lasting end” to the ongoing conflict, according to reports.
In an interview, Araghchi described the recent strikes by the United States and Israel as an “illegal, unprovoked act of aggression”, urging the international community to take a firm stand. He emphasized that while several nations are attempting mediation, Iran will not accept a short-term truce and instead demands assurances against future attacks and compensation for damages.

He added that diplomatic channels remain open, but said Washington has yet to show seriousness toward achieving a meaningful resolution.
Amid the tensions, Iran has indicated willingness to cooperate with Japan to ensure safe passage of its vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.
Separately, Araghchi issued a strong warning to the United Kingdom, cautioning that Tehran would respond if British involvement in the conflict deepens. His remarks followed reports that US forces have been allowed access to UK military bases.
In a message posted publicly, he criticized British leadership, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, alleging that such decisions could endanger British lives. Iran, he said, would exercise its right to self-defence if necessary.
During a conversation with UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Araghchi reiterated that any cooperation with US or Israeli actions would be viewed as participation in aggression. In response, British officials warned Iran against targeting UK bases or interests, highlighting the risk of further escalation.
The exchange underscores growing international tensions as diplomatic efforts continue alongside military developments in the region.
