Pune, Mar 17: Taking serious note of black marketing and artificial shortage of domestic LPG cylinders, the district administration has introduced an OTP-based delivery system across Pune district. Under the new system, gas cylinders will be delivered to consumers’ homes within 96 hours of booking, eliminating the need to queue outside distributor outlets.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by District Collector Jitendra Dudi at the Collector’s office, attended by officials of gas distribution companies, agency representatives and police officers. District Supply Officer Mahesh Sudhalkar was also present.

The administration has made it mandatory for distributors to supply domestic gas cylinders only through the OTP system. Direct distribution from warehouses, agencies or any other locations has been completely banned. Gas agencies have been instructed to display boards stating that cylinders will be delivered to homes within 96 hours through OTP, and to send messages to registered mobile numbers of customers to prevent crowding at outlets.
The District Collector has also ordered police protection for gas distributors and their staff following concerns raised during the meeting. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone obstructing the distribution process or engaging in illegal trade. Agencies have been directed to ensure their employees do not indulge in malpractice, failing which action will be initiated.
In addition, oil companies have been instructed to increase daily refilling capacity and issue written communication to distributors regarding operational guidelines. The distribution cycle has been fixed at 25 days for agencies within municipal corporation and Nagarapalika limits, including Hinjewadi, and 45 days for rural areas.
Police have been directed to take action against any interference in cylinder distribution, maintain law and order, provide protection to agencies when required, and conduct regular visits to prevent overcrowding.
According to official data, Pune district has approximately 16 lakh consumers of Hindustan Petroleum, over 20.23 lakh Bharat Petroleum consumers, and more than 2.12 lakh Indian Oil customers.
