Iran calls Israeli fuel depot strikes in Tehran ‘ecocide’

Daijiworld Media Network - Tehran

Tehran, Mar 16: Abbas Araghchi has accused Israel of committing “ecocide” by targeting fuel depots in Tehran, warning that the strikes could cause long-term environmental and health damage to residents of the Iranian capital.

In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi said Israeli attacks on fuel storage facilities violated international law and could lead to severe environmental consequences.

“Israel’s bombings of fuel depots in Tehran violate international law and constitute ecocide,” he wrote. “Residents face long-term damage to their health and well-being. Contamination of soil and groundwater could have generational impacts.”

The Iranian foreign minister also called for accountability, stating that Israel “must be punished for its war crimes.”

The remarks come amid escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel following a series of strikes on key infrastructure and military facilities across the region.
