Mumbai, Mar 12: A bomb threat sent through email triggered a major security alert at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai during the ongoing budget session, prompting authorities to evacuate parts of the legislative complex and launch a large-scale search operation.

According to preliminary information, the threat message claimed that an explosive device had been planted inside the Assembly premises. The email reportedly referred specifically to the residential area within the Vidhan Bhavan complex.

Following the alert, security personnel immediately initiated emergency protocols. Parts of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly complex were evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of legislators, staff members and visitors present at the site.

Officials said police and security agencies quickly secured the area while efforts were launched to verify the authenticity of the threat.

Specialised teams, including a dog squad, were deployed to conduct a thorough inspection of the premises. Personnel from the Mumbai Police began searching the complex room by room to check for any suspicious objects or explosive devices.

Authorities said the search operation was continuing, while investigations were underway to trace the source of the threatening email.
