New Delhi, Mar 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasized the shared commitment of India and Finland to the rule of law, dialogue, and diplomacy, while voicing support for efforts to end conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, at Hyderabad House, Delhi, PM Modi said that military action alone cannot resolve global disputes. “India and Finland believe in dialogue and diplomacy. Whether in Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support every effort for a swift resolution and lasting peace,” he said. He also stressed the urgent need to reform global institutions and combat terrorism in all its forms.

PM Modi lauded President Stubb’s personal achievements, including completing the Ironman Triathlon, noting that “with an energetic leader like you, India and Finland will achieve a new triathlon of innovation, digital growth, and sustainability.”
The Prime Minister highlighted growing India-Europe cooperation as a driver of global stability and prosperity. He referenced the recently signed historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union, which aims to boost trade, investment, and technology collaboration.
India and Finland also signed a comprehensive migration and mobility agreement to strengthen innovation ecosystems and foster talent exchange. PM Modi noted that Finland is becoming a preferred destination for Indian students and emphasized expanding joint research, startup collaboration, teacher training, school partnerships, and future-oriented education initiatives.
“Finland is a role model in education. Our cooperation will deepen at every level of human development—from schools to industry. We are also expanding collaboration in Arctic and polar research. Finland is an important partner for India in the Nordic region,” he said.
The meeting underlined the shared vision of India and Finland for global cooperation, innovation, and sustainable growth.
