Jordan and UAE lodge strong protests with Iran over sovereignty violations

Abudhabi, Mar 2: The governments of the United Arab Emirates and Jordan have formally summoned Iranian envoys in Abu Dhabi and Amman, issuing stern protests over recent attacks they say targeted their territories and violated international law.

In Amman, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called in the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Iran in Amman and delivered a strongly worded message condemning the strikes. In a statement shared publicly, the ministry described the incidents as a “flagrant violation” of Jordan’s sovereignty and that of other Arab nations, calling them a breach of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fuad Al-Majali said the Iranian envoy was informed of the need to immediately halt any actions targeting Jordan, respect its territorial integrity, and adhere to the principles of good neighborliness. He stressed that Jordan would take all necessary measures to safeguard its citizens, security, and sovereignty.

A similar démarche was made in Abu Dhabi, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iran’s Ambassador to the UAE, Reza Ameri. The UAE condemned what it described as terrorist attacks and assaults on its territory, calling them a serious threat to national security and a clear breach of international conventions and established norms.

Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, UAE Minister of State, rejected what he termed as justifications put forward by Tehran, saying the escalation targeted civilian sites including residential areas, airports, ports, and service facilities, thereby endangering innocent lives. He underscored that the UAE has consistently maintained it would not allow its territory to be used for military action against Iran, and said the attacks ran counter to ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation and peaceful engagement.

Al Marar also cautioned that the developments could have serious consequences for bilateral relations, potentially affecting political, economic, and commercial ties.

The coordinated diplomatic moves by Jordan and the UAE reflect mounting regional concern over Iran’s military actions and their implications for civilian safety, sovereignty, and broader regional stability.
