Donald Trump signals tough call ahead as US-Iran nuclear talks continue

Washington, Feb 28: US President Donald Trump on Saturday voiced dissatisfaction with the ongoing negotiations with Iran, insisting that any agreement must clearly prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.

Speaking at a gathering in Texas, Trump said his administration faces a “very big decision” regarding Iran and emphasised that any potential deal must be substantive and enforceable. He reiterated that the United States would not accept an outcome that allows Iran to retain or pursue nuclear capabilities.

Trump described Iran as a long-standing destabilising force and said Washington had already demonstrated its military strength. Referring to recent US operations, he noted that American B-2 bombers had struck Iranian targets, claiming those actions had significantly damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. However, he added that he would prefer a diplomatic resolution if a meaningful agreement can be reached.

The remarks came after the third round of negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded in Geneva on Thursday. The talks are part of renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The negotiations are unfolding amid heightened regional uncertainty and a notable US military build-up in the Middle East. Several countries have advised their citizens to leave Iran due to concerns over possible escalation.

Earlier in the day, Trump reiterated that while no final decision has been made, he is dissatisfied with Iran’s stance in the discussions. He stressed again that Tehran “cannot have nuclear weapons” and indicated that further talks were expected.

“We’re not exactly happy with the way they’re negotiating,” Trump said, adding that the coming days would be crucial in determining whether diplomacy can produce an acceptable outcome.
