Kolkata, Feb 28: The final electoral roll under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal was released on Saturday, revealing substantial deletions in key Assembly constituencies represented by top political leaders.
According to data from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, 47,111 names have been struck off the voters’ list in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in south Kolkata, represented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In contrast, 10,994 names were deleted from the electoral roll in the Nandigram constituency in East Midnapore district, represented by Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

Officials further stated that in Bhabanipur, 14,154 voters’ documents remain under judicial scrutiny, indicating that additional deletions may follow depending on the outcome of the adjudication process. In Nandigram, 8,819 voters are similarly under review.
At the time of reporting, there was no official response from the All India Trinamool Congress regarding the high number of deletions in Bhabanipur. However, Adhikari commented that the scale of deletions in the Chief Minister’s constituency could be politically significant.
He claimed that the reduction in voter numbers might affect her prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled later this year.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Banerjee had contested from Nandigram but was defeated by Adhikari. She later won a by-election from Bhabanipur, enabling her to continue as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.
