Mangaluru: St Ann’s College of Education celebrates its yearly accomplishments

Mangaluru, Feb 28: St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), a premiere institution in teacher education celebrated its eventful annual day with great pomp and gaiety. The chief guest Brian Fernandes, director, Spearhead Media Pvt Ltd and chairman, Indian Society for Training and Development, Mangaluru/Udupi chapter, Maria Smitha AC, joint secretary St Ann’s Institutions, Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC, principal, St Ann’s College of Education, Prof Dr Flosy D Souza vice-principal, members of the management, faculty, alumni, parents of BEd students were present.

The programme began by invoking the peaceful presence of gracious God. A group of students led the audience to the humble tranquillity of the Almighty’s grace through an invocation, a dance was performed as a warm gesture of welcome. Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC, principal, welcomed the august gathering and introduced the chief guest and presented an annual report, highlighting the academic endeavours of faculty and the diverse range of activities conducted in the year.

The chief guest Brian Fernandes, spoke in his address about the emotional regulation, resilience and problem-solving skills that teachers help in nurture in students. The best outstanding BEd student-teacher of the year to Pramitha, most deserving student teacher to Clemente Joicila Zurica, hardworking student teacher of the year in arts to Netravathi, English to Shashikala, Kannada to Shashikala, social science to Liji N V, mathematics to Rishel Oshin D Almeida, physics to Kushmitha N, chemistry to Nikitha C and in biologoly to Tomsy Antony. Luminaries of the occasion bestowed the prizes to the victorious students who displayed excellence in cultural competitions.

The cultural programme was a mesmerised blend of talent and creativity. An Indian folkdance, a symphony of traditions and a kaleidoscope of heritage, an eastern song curated a delightful melody to take the audience on a rhythmic journey and a moving mime show on the life and sacrifice of soldiers was performed by BEd. student-teachers. Pramitha compered the event and Fathimath Nisha, student president proposed vote of thanks.

Dr Rose Kiran Pinto, assistant professor was the convener of the programme. The resounding success of the college day exemplified the spirit of cooperation and the diligent efforts of the management, principal, staff and students.
