Gorakhpur, Feb 27: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly stalking, abusing and attempting to molest a 25-year-old resident doctor from Nagaland working at AIIMS Gorakhpur.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening and came to light on Monday after the victim lodged a complaint. A police team visited the campus and recorded her statement.

The victim, a third-year resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, alleged that three men on a motorcycle followed her for nearly 1.5 km while she was returning from a mall. The accused allegedly passed obscene remarks, verbally abused her and engaged in misconduct near the institute’s entrance.
According to the complaint, the men touched her inappropriately and made obscene gestures until she reached Gate No. 2 of AIIMS. They allegedly attempted to expose themselves and fled after she raised an alarm, issuing threats of dire consequences.
Gorakhpur SP Abhinav Tyagi said an FIR was registered at AIIMS police station under Sections 74, 296A, 352 and 351C of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, obscene acts, criminal intimidation and intentional insult.
The accused — Suraj Gupta (22), Amrit Vishwakarma (21) and Aditya Rao (23), all residents of Deoria district — were identified through CCTV footage collected from the mall, AIIMS premises and nearby areas. They were arrested near their homes and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime was seized.
The National Federation of All India Resident Doctors (NAFORD) has extended support to the victim and is pursuing measures for her security and legal assistance.
Reacting to the incident, Conrad K Sangma condemned the alleged racial and sexual harassment of the doctor and called for stringent action against the perpetrators, stating that such incidents should not be sensationalised and forgotten.
