Kolkata, Feb 26: Kolkata witnessed another wave of bomb threats on Thursday as passport offices at Brabourne Road and Anandpur were evacuated following emails claiming explosives had been planted on the premises. Employees rushed out in panic, and police along with bomb squad teams, assisted by sniffer dogs, conducted thorough searches. No explosives were found.
Simultaneously, similar threats targeted several post offices across the state. A warning email was sent to the Howrah Maidan post office after work began, prompting an immediate evacuation. Authorities also responded to threats at the Asansol Head Post Office in West Midnapore and the Basirhat Head Post Office in North 24 Parganas, with police and bomb squads conducting searches at each location. No suspicious items were discovered.

These incidents follow a spate of threats over the past two days directed at courts in West Bengal. On Tuesday, emails warned of bombs in the Calcutta High Court, City Sessions Court, Suri Court in Birbhum, and Asansol Court in West Burdwan, with panic also reported at Hooghly District Court. Police conducted extensive searches, but nothing hazardous was found.
On Wednesday, the Asansol District and Sessions Court and the Suri District Court of Birbhum received similar threats, claiming RDX explosives had been planted. Once again, searches by police yielded no dangerous material.
Authorities continue to investigate the source of these repeated email threats, while maintaining heightened security measures across courts, passport offices, and post offices in the state.
