Teen arrested in Borivali bike theft; two more cases cracked

Mumbai, Feb 12: Kasturba Marg Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth in connection with a motorcycle theft in Borivali East, leading to the detection of two additional theft cases, officials said.

The most recent theft occurred on the night between January 25 and 26. A resident of Borivali East had parked his motorcycle outside his home before retiring for the night, only to discover the next morning that it had been stolen. He subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

During the investigation, officers reviewed footage from nearly 40 to 50 CCTV cameras in and around the locality. Technical analysis and local intelligence inputs indicated that the suspect was a resident of Malwani.

Acting on this lead and with assistance from their informant network, police tracked down and apprehended the accused, identified as Mohammad Umer Shaikh (19), from Malwani. The stolen motorcycle, valued at approximately ?80,000, was recovered from his possession.

Police said further investigation is underway.
