Milagres College of Nursing holds lamp lighting, oath taking & Annual Day celebration

Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 12: Milagres College of Nursing solemnly celebrated its lamp lighting ceremony, oath taking, and Annual Day on February 11 at the Milagres Jubilee Hall, marking a memorable milestone for the institution and its students.

The occasion was especially significant as it welcomed the 2nd batch of 40 nursing students, who stepped forward to embrace the values and responsibilities of the nursing profession.

The programme began with a grand procession led by the Milagres College Band, creating an atmosphere of dignity and celebration. This was followed by a graceful invocation dance by the 2nd year BSc nursing students, seeking divine blessings for the success of the event.

The lamp lighting ceremony, symbolising enlightenment, knowledge, and compassionate service, was conducted with deep reverence. This was followed by the oath taking ceremony, during which the students pledged to uphold ethical principles and dedicate themselves to selfless care.

The gathering was warmly welcomed by Diana D’Lima, assistant lecturer. The annual report was then presented by the principal, Dr Diana Lobo, highlighting the academic achievements, institutional growth, and accomplishments of the college during the year.

The significance of the day was meaningfully explained by the vice principal, Jyothi Cutinha, emphasizing discipline, professionalism, and commitment in the nursing vocation.

The event was graced by the chief guest, Dr Theresa Leonilda Mendonca, who in her address encouraged students to serve humanity with compassion, resilience, and ethical responsibility, reminding them that nursing is a calling beyond a profession. She emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and patient-centred care.

Presiding over the function was the president and correspondent, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, who encouraged students to carry forward the mission and values of Milagres College of Nursing.

A proud moment of the ceremony was the prize distribution, honouring students for their achievements in academic, curricular, and extracurricular activities.

The programme also witnessed two landmark moments — the release of the debut college magazine, Milagres Heart Beat, and the unveiling of the college anthem, both symbolising unity, creativity, and institutional pride.

The event was efficiently compered by Riya Lobo and Rehana, assistant lecturers, ensuring a smooth and engaging flow of the programme. The formal proceedings concluded with a sincere vote of thanks by Relvita.

The celebration ended on a joyful note with a cultural programme, where students displayed their talents through vibrant performances, making the evening lively and unforgettable.

The event stood as a true reflection of the spirit of Milagres College of Nursing — nurturing knowledge, compassion, and excellence in healthcare.
