Kolkata, Feb 7: A district court on Saturday granted bail to event organizer Tanay Shastri in connection with the harassment case filed by Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty.

However, Shastri will not be released immediately, as the court ordered an additional four days of judicial custody for him and two of his associates in a separate case concerning obstruction of police duties during the investigation of the harassment allegations.

The incident occurred on January 25 at a social event in Nayagopalganj, Bongaon, North 24 Parganas, where Shastri, a club official, allegedly harassed Mimi Chakraborty. Reports indicate that she was forced off the stage and the music was stopped due to her delayed arrival. Following this, Chakraborty filed a complaint against Shastri at the Bongaon police station.

On January 29, police attempting to investigate the complaint faced resistance from Shastri and two associates. This led to their arrest on charges of harassing police personnel. They were produced in court the next day, with the police requesting seven days of custody. The court initially granted four days of judicial custody.

The trio was produced again on February 3, with the police requesting an extension and additional charges of molestation against Shastri. Bail applications were rejected at the time, and Mimi Chakraborty’s confidential statement was recorded as part of the investigation.

On Saturday, the court granted bail to Shastri in the harassment case, but he remains in judicial custody in the police obstruction case until February 11.
