Punjab police seize 3.9 kg heroin delivered by drone in Tarn Taran

Chandigarh, Feb 4: In a significant blow to cross-border narcotics operations, Punjab Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), recovered 3.925 kg of heroin from agricultural fields near the Border Outpost (BOP) in Kaalian, Tarn Taran. Authorities say the consignment was delivered using a DJI Matrice drone, indicating that smugglers across the Pakistan border are increasingly employing advanced technology to transport illegal drugs.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify the handlers, trace the supply routes, and dismantle the broader smuggling network. Senior Superintendent of Police Surendra Lamba noted that Punjab’s 'Baaz Akh' anti-drone system detected drone activity in the Kaalian area. Acting on the alert, police and BSF teams launched a joint operation, intercepting the drone and recovering the heroin from nearby fields.

A case has been registered under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 26, and 29 of the ‘Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam’ in Valtoha, Tarn Taran. Authorities are also probing to identify the intended recipient of the narcotics.

DGP Yadav urged the public, especially young people, to avoid involvement in crime and use the Anti-Gangster Helpline (93946-93946) to confidentially report any criminal activities. He emphasized that with active citizen cooperation, organized crime can be eradicated, reinforcing that Punjab has no tolerance for illegal or anti-social activities.
