Mumbai, Feb 4: A somber atmosphere has settled over the IIT Bombay campus following the death of a 21-year-old student on Wednesday. Local authorities report that the undergraduate appears to have ended his life by jumping from the rooftop of his residence hall.
The student has been identified as Naman Agarwal, a second-year BTech student specializing in Civil Engineering. Originally from Pilani, Rajasthan, Agarwal was a resident of Hostel No. 4 on the Powai campus. While the incident occurred early Wednesday, investigators confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.

The Powai Police have officially filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR), which is a standard procedural step as they begin a deeper inquiry to determine the specific circumstances and motives behind the tragedy. Meanwhile, the institute’s administration has yet to release an official statement regarding the loss.
This event marks another distressing moment for the premier engineering community, once again bringing the conversation around student well-being to the forefront.
