Mangaluru, Feb 4: St Agnes School (CBSE) solemnly observed Martyrs’ Day and Peace Day on January 30 paying heartfelt tribute to the brave freedom fighters and promoting the universal values of peace, unity, and non-violence. The programme was held in the school auditorium and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students and staff.

The programme commenced with a brief introduction, setting a reflective and patriotic tone for the day. A prayer service invoking peace and harmony was conducted, followed by a graceful prayer dance symbolising devotion, remembrance, and hope.

The gathering was formally welcomed by Goldine of grade 7. The chief guest, Reshma D'Souza, a dedicated teacher of St Agnes School (CBSE), known for her exemplary service and unwavering commitment to the institution, was accorded a warm floral welcome by the vice principal, Sr Meena Fernandes AC.

The importance of Martyrs’ Day was highlighted by Ashel, who spoke about the supreme sacrifices made by freedom fighters for India’s independence. This was followed by a lively and vibrant patriotic dance by the students of class 1, which filled the auditorium with pride and enthusiasm. A thematic dance presentation titled ‘Nav Bharath Nirmaan’ beautifully portrayed the vision of a strong, united, and progressive India.

The chief guest was then invited to address the gathering. In her inspiring speech, Reshma D'Souza spoke about the timeless relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, emphasising the values of truth, non-violence, peace, and moral courage. She paid homage to the soldiers and freedom fighters whose selfless sacrifices shaped the nation.

Addressing the students as the future of the country, she encouraged them to become responsible citizens by practising honesty, discipline, respect, and service to society.

As part of the Peace Day observance, the school organised activities such as poster making, slogan writing, and badge making, encouraging students to reflect on and spread the message of harmony, compassion, and global unity.

The programme concluded with a sincere vote of thanks proposed by Ninada of grade 1, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, the principal, vice principal, teachers, and students for their support and active participation. The celebration came to a dignified close with the singing of the school anthem.

The observance of Martyrs’ Day and Peace Day at St Agnes School served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices that won the nation its freedom while inspiring students to uphold the values of peace, patriotism, and responsibility.
