Kundapur: Man posing as customer held for gold chain theft

Kundapur, Feb 4: Police have held an accused who allegedly stole a gold chain by posing as a customer at a jewellery shop near Shastri Circle here about a week ago.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh (42), a resident of Badaga Kajekaru village in Bantwal taluk.

Police have recovered a gold chain weighing about 9 grams, valued at Rs 1.25 lac, which was allegedly stolen by the accused, along with Rs 33,000 in cash found in his possession. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

According to police, the accused visited the jewellery shop on the pretext of purchasing gold and asked the staff to show him gold chains. Taking advantage of a momentary lapse in attention, he allegedly stole a gold chain weighing around 9 grams and fled.

The accused was traced and held by a team led by Kundapur police station inspector Jayaram D Gowda, under the guidance of Kundapur sub-division DYSP H D Kulkarni. The team included law and order PSI Nanjanayk N, investigation PSI Pushpa, and staff members Santosh, Mahabala Shettigar, Prince, Ghanashyam, Santosh Devadiga, Gautam, Lohith, Chandrashetty and others.
