New Delhi, Jan 30: A Delhi court has granted 13-day interim bail to Khalid Saifi, accused in the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, with strict conditions, including refraining from social media use.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai heard Saifi’s bail plea, filed to attend his nephews’ wedding and observe Ramzan with his family. The court’s order, dated January 29, stipulated that Saifi shall not contact witnesses, leave Delhi-NCR, approach the media, or post any content on social media during the bail period.

The interim bail has been allowed from February 6 to February 13, 2026, on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount. The judge noted that, considering the circumstances, granting the relief was just and appropriate.

The 2020 Northeast Delhi riots erupted on February 24, 2020, following clashes between supporters and protesters of the Citizenship Amendment Act, resulting in at least 53 deaths and around 700 injuries.

According to the FIR at Jagat Puri police station, a mob gathered in Masjidwali Gali, Khureji Khas on February 26, 2020, refused police orders to disperse, pelted stones, assaulted personnel, and fired at Head Constable Yograj.

The prosecution alleges that Saifi, along with former Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan, instigated the “unlawful assembly” that escalated the violence.
