Udupi, Jan 28: As part of intensified enforcement measures to improve road safety, the district police conducted large-scale checks on public transport and commercial vehicles on Wednesday, booking multiple cases for various violations.
A total of 1,100 city buses were inspected during the drive, during which 108 challans were issued for violations, including failure to fix doors and other safety-related lapses.









Meanwhile, special checks were also conducted on vehicles transporting mines and minerals, during which 1,352 vehicles were inspected. As many as 56 challans were issued for violations such as overloading, non-implementation of speed governors and other breaches of transport regulations.
Providing details of the drive, Udupi police superintendent Hariram Shankar said that a meeting has been scheduled at 3 pm on Thursday at the deputy commissioner’s office with city bus owners to discuss issues related to bus timings and other operational concerns. He said the enforcement drives would be carried out in phases as part of the implementation of decisions taken by the deputy commissioner-led committee during the Road Traffic Authority and Road Safety Authority meetings, with a focus on stricter regulation of buses and trucks to ensure public safety.
