Mangaluru, Jan 27: The Republic Day celebration was observed with dignity and patriotic fervour at the college campus on January 26. The programme commemorated the adoption of the Constitution of India and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to democratic ideals and constitutional values.
The celebration commenced with a prayer by the college choir, invoking peace, harmony, and prosperity for the nation. The welcome address was delivered by Indushree from the department of biology, who extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, the principal, staff members, PTA members, parents, and students.

The distinguished chief guest, retired colonel Nitin Ramesh Bhide, a native of Mundaje, was introduced with pride. A veteran of the Indian Army, Col Bhide has rendered over 32 years of dedicated service to the nation, exemplifying discipline, commitment, and patriotism. He was felicitated with a sapling as a token of respect and gratitude.
A moment of national pride followed with the unfurling of the National Flag by the chief guest, along with the principal and other dignitaries. The gathering stood in attention for the National Anthem, symbolising unity and reverence for the nation.
A student address on the Significance of Republic Day was delivered by Adwaith, a II PU student. He spoke eloquently about the Constitution coming into force with a vision of a just, equal, and inclusive India. He highlighted the importance of equality before the law, freedom, respect for diversity, and the power of citizens in a democratic system. He also drew attention to contemporary social concerns such as inadequate support for sportspersons, insufficient post-service security for soldiers’ families, the persistence of religious discrimination, and the need to eradicate corruption. Emphasising civil responsibility, he urged citizens to place national interest above personal gain.
This was followed by a staff address by Shravya Shetty from the department of chemistry. She emphasised that the Constitution provides a framework for Indians to live together as one nation. She highlighted that the Indian Constitution is the longest written and one of the most inclusive constitutions in the world. She also noted that the deliberate exclusion of religious references in the preamble reflects India’s commitment to secularism, ensuring equality and neutrality for all citizens.
The chief guest, Col Nitin Bhide, delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking address. He explained the historical significance of January 26, 1950, stating that the date was chosen to honour the Lahore Declaration, which envisioned India as a complete republic free from slavery. He paid tribute to the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Encouraging students to ‘bloom where they are planted,’ he urged them to pursue their goals with dedication and integrity. He emphasised unity in diversity and reminded students to look forward with purpose, comparing life to a car’s windshield rather than a rear-view mirror. He concluded by urging everyone to ‘be the change’ for a better and more responsible society.
As part of the celebrations, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions organised to foster patriotism among students. The chief guest congratulated the winners and appreciated their enthusiastic participation.
Adding a cultural and emotional dimension to the programme, the college choir presented a patriotic medley that stirred national pride and reflected the sacrifices and ideals of the nation’s founding leaders.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the convener, Deepthi Rani M K, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, staff, students, and all contributors.
