Bengaluru, Jan 19: The state government has announced that police protection will be provided to couples entering into inter-caste marriages in the state.
Home minister Dr G Parameshwara, referring to the recent honour killing of a six-month pregnant woman in Dharwad district, said the incident was a matter of shame for civil society. He pointed out that even before marriage, young men or women involved in inter-caste relationships often face threats from their own family members. If such individuals approach the local police seeking protection, the police must not ignore these complaints. He instructed that immediate security should be provided to those facing threats.

He further stated that DCRE (Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement) police stations have been established to prevent atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. However, he expressed concern that the police are not working efficiently to protect the oppressed. He directed DCRE police officials to pay special attention to cases related to inter-caste marriages and ensure proper protection to those concerned.
