Purnea, Jan 13: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman working as an orchestra dancer was allegedly abducted and gangraped by six men in Bihar’s Purnea district on Saturday night. The survivor managed to alert police using the mobile phone of one of the accused, leading to her rescue and the arrest of one person, officials said.
According to police, the woman was abducted around 9 pm by two men in a car and taken nearly 25 km away to a godown, where four other men were present. She alleged that she was forced to consume alcohol and made to dance, after which all six men raped her.

Police said that after the assault, five of the accused fled after locking the woman inside a room, while one man, reportedly intoxicated, fell asleep inside the godown. Taking advantage of the situation, the survivor used the sleeping man’s phone to dial the emergency number 112 at around 12.15 am.
Acting on the call, police rushed to the location. “The door was locked from outside and was broken open by police personnel to enter the godown,” an officer said. The woman was found in a critical condition, with liquor bottles scattered at the spot. One man was found lying there in an intoxicated state.
The survivor was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Purnea, where her statement was recorded. Her medical examination is underway, police said.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Junaid (35), a local resident. Police also seized the car allegedly used in the crime. An FIR has been registered on the basis of the survivor’s statement against three named and three unidentified accused, all residents of Dagarua. Raids are on to arrest the remaining five accused.
Purnea Superintendent of Police Sweety Sahrawat said police acted swiftly after receiving the emergency call. She added that the survivor named two other accused and that aspects related to human trafficking have also emerged during the investigation.
“Action will be taken against all those found involved in human trafficking,” the SP said.
Sources said the survivor’s husband died in a road accident about a year ago and she has been living alone.
