Virar, Dec 29: In a shocking incident in Virar, a 35-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband and sister-in-law following a family dispute. The incident has left the local community in shock.
The deceased, Kalpana Soni (35), had been living with her husband Mahesh Soni (38) and his family in Sangam Society, M.B. Estate area of West Virar. Kalpana married Mahesh in 2025, but soon after the wedding, she was subjected to constant physical and mental harassment from her husband and in-laws. Frequent disputes had become a part of family life, causing tension between Kalpana and Mahesh, as well as with his relatives.

On Saturday morning, another argument broke out between Kalpana and her husband. During the altercation, Kalpana decided to leave the house and demanded the return of her stridhan (personal property). At that moment, Mahesh Soni and Kalpana’s sister-in-law, Dipali Soni (35), attacked her mercilessly. Both assailants struck Kalpana on the head and forehead with a sharp weapon, leading to her instant death.
Before she could resist, the duo brutally killed her in cold blood, leaving the neighbors and family members horrified.
Following the incident, Bolinj police registered a case under Section 302(1) of the Indian Penal Code for murder. Both accused—husband Mahesh Soni and sister-in-law Dipali Soni—have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
